You want success? Get rid of the Martians!

Recently, one can observe a tendency to rehash long-solved problems. Why? To present them as relevant, dazzle the crowds with a clever solution and declare success. There is no room for  failure – after all, the issue has long been dealt with – President of Employers of Poland Andrzej Malinowski writes in “Rzeczpospolita”.

– This appears to be the way chosen by the Ministry of Justice. It announced a plan to introduce escrows into road construction. It is intended as a protection for small contractors against being cheated by large companies carrying out big, public road construction contracts. The state would pay money into an escrow account. The main contractor would only receive it after having paid the sub-contractors. The trouble is that this is already the case – he explains.

– Meanwhile, the legal system already favors sub-contractors. Big companies are whipping boys. Why would the screw be turned even more? The construction industry has shown moderate enthusiasm for the new regulations –  to put it mildly –
Malinowski emphasized.

– Do some ministries really have so little to boast about that they will not stop short of making a nuisance of themselves just for a brief flash of recognition? This recognition will be won at the expense of the stability of law, exacerbating the biggest problem facing Polish entrepreneurs and the economy as a whole! Do they not understand? Or maybe they just do not care? – he wonders.

– If they are so determined to boast a success, it may be achieved without causing anyone harm. They may just as well introduce a bill banning Martians from landing their spaceships in Polish woodlands. Not only is it guaranteed to be a success, they will also get on the good side of environmentalists. Let us go then! – jokes the President of Employers of Poland.
